Almost ten years ago, our 2004 graduates were the first students to receive a high school diploma from The Churchill School and Center.  Since that time, several hundred graduates have ventured out into the world through our doors.  We welcome you to share your news with us as we continue to build our Alumni Community.  We hope you enjoy hearing the latest updates from your colleagues and we invite you to share yours anytime by emailing alumni@churchillschool.com.  Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!

Nicole Angrisani '08 graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2012.  She now lives in San Antonio and is working as an 8th grade special education inclusion teacher at KIPP San Antonio.

Max Beron' 06 has been working in Technology at Churchill for the past eight years.  Max began his career in Tech as an assistant and he now serves as the head of the department.

Fabio Botarelli '06 is a nationally ranked chess expert and competes in tournaments all over the country.  Fabio also teaches students of all ages and backgrounds how to play chess at a high level.  As a former LD student, he takes particular joy in teaching children with learning disabilities.  He knows from personal experience that chess can give any student self-confidence, discipline, a powerful mind and an unrivaled thirst for knowledge.  Fabio founded his own chess tutoring company,Chessability, because he believes chess to be an integral part of the learning process.  He currently runs chess programs at private special education schools in NYC and White Plains.   More information regarding Fabio’s program can be found on his website: www.chessabilitytutor.com.


 

Stephen Grayson '07 graduated from the University of New Haven (UNH) with honors in 2011, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications.  He studied abroad in London, England during his junior year at UNH.  Stephen is pursing a Master of Arts degree in Communications from Fairfield University with an expected graduation date of May 2014.  He is currently finishing his thesis on healthcare organizational communication. After graduation, Stephen's career goal is to obtain a full-time position in communications and make a valuable contribution to the field. 

In 2012, Ptahra Jeppe '08 graduated Magna Cum Laude from Adelphi University with many honors and awards.  She has a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Political Science.  Ptahra is also a 2008 Churchill Class Rep. 

Paul Kamin '08 graduated from Temple University in 2012, where he studied Film and Media Arts.  Throughout his college career, he interned at several companies and lived in various locations, including Los Angeles, CA, and Shanghai, China.  After graduation,Paul worked as a freelance video editor and currently works at NBC Universal as an Assistant Editor.

Kristen Mahony '06 is the Brand Manager for Black Brown 1826, the Men's Designer Brand sold at Lord & Taylor and at Hudson's Bay Department Stores.  Her main role as a brand manager is to liaison between Design, Production and the Merchant as well as overseeing all Marketing for BB1826.  She graduated from Marist College with her Bachelors degree in Fashion Merchandising with minors in Business and Theater.  Kristen takes great pride in saying that she graduated with honors from a "mainstream" college primarily because of the wonderful teachers and administrators at Churchill.  Kristen is also a 2006 Churchill Class Rep. 

Izzi Stern '08 graduated from American University in May 2013 with a BA in Sociology and Minors in Psychology and Public Health.  She now attends George Washington University and is a candidate for an MA in Higher Education Administration.  Izzi is also a 2008 Churchill Class Rep. 

Asim Barnes '07 graduated from Mercy College with a Bachelor of Arts in History.  Asim tutored students on the Lower East Side and worked for a company that supported labor unions and workers' rights for immigrants. After substituting at the Pleasant School in Harlem, Asim relocated to Mount Vernon, NY, where he currently plays in church bands. 

Kara Caroccio '09 is currently interning at the Stephen Gaynor school in the Art room and focusing on a career in Art Therapy.  Kara is also a 2009 Churchill Class Rep. 

Julia Colletti '10 will graduate from Barnard College- Columbia University this May.  She is on the Dean's List with a 3.7 overall GPA and a 3.9 major GPA.  Julia takes classes at ICP (International Center of Photography) for fun.  She is currently  a temporary employee at Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, working with Design Operations (Design and Product Development) as well as the Global Women's Merchandising team.  She has been offered a  position there which she intends to take after graduation.  Julia is also a 2010 Churchill Class Rep. 

Andy Hoffman '08 has moved on from his time at the University of Arizona in 2008-2009 where he studied journalism.  He transferred to St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY to study physical education.  Wanting a greater challenge in the field, Andy transferred to SUNY Cortland where he continues to study physical education and coaching.  This past semester, Andy made the dean’s list.  During his winter break from Cortland, Andy proposed to his girlfriend when she returned from her time studying abroad in Belgium.  They are now engaged and plan to marry in the summer of 2015, after Andy graduates from college.  Andy is also a 2008 Churchill Class Rep. 

After graduating college in the summer of 2013, Johnny Kunen '08 became an Assistant Coach at Churchill for both Middle School Soccer and High School Varsity Basketball.  Johnny also has been working closely with fellow Churchill Alumnus,Mackenzie Younger '08, who has been teaching Art and Ecology at a Student Enrichment Club at the Brooklyn Urban Garden School.  Together, they have written and illustrated three children's books for a variety of age groups.  Presently, they are working on a series of stories based on New York City animals that they plan on self-publishing, promoting and distributing by next fall. 

James Poli '07 graduated from Manhattanville College in 2011 with a Bachelors in Sociology and minors in Math, Music, and History.  In 2013, he received his Masters of Professional Studies in Childhood and Special Education at Manhattanville College.  James is now a 2nd grade teacher at the Bronx Charter School for Excellence.

Julia Romano '05 has been teaching at Churchill for the past four years.  She started her first year  as an Assistant Science Teacher in the Elementary School, and by the end of that year, obtained a position in the Middle School Art Department.  She has worked as an Assistant Art Teacher for the past three years, and spends her summers teaching for the New York State Summer School of the Arts.  She plans to attend graduate school for a Master in Fine Arts in the future.

For the past 6 months, David Thomashower '07 has been working as an editor in Los Angeles, CA.  He is currently working on a documentary about Alzheimer's disease.  

Weade V. Williams '01 is the creative force behind WVWDesigns, a graphic design firm based in New York City.  She has had a passion and dedication for design since a young age.  Weade’s artistic style is filled with bright colors with a modern edge, which is a reflection of her personal style.  Currently, Weade has created a collection of keepsake boxes which are entitled The Last Good Thing Keepsake Boxes.  This collection and other artwork by Weade can be found on the WVWDesigns website and the WVWDesigns Etsy Store.  WVWDesigns Website:www.WVWDesigns.com.  WVWDesigns Etsy Store - Keyword: WVWDesigns.

Matthew Barnett '06 has worked in some of the city's most iconic museums, from the Guggenheim to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  He is currently in the process of making a transition back into media, which was the basis of his studies at Marymount Manhattan College.  Matthew is also a 2006 Churchill Class Rep. 

Sarah Chavooshian '06spoke with current Churchill students last month to share her experience as an Inpatient Medical Social Worker at the Manhattan Veterans Health Administration – U.S Department of Veteran Affairs.  Sarah received her Bachelor of Arts from Marist College in 2010.  Following graduation, she worked for a short period at a Public Relations & Marketing firm but came to realize that her true interest was to pursue a career helping others in need.  Sarah enrolled in the Fordham School of Social Service and received her Masters Degree in Social Work in 2013.  As part of the required Fordham curriculum, she had two internships: counseling seniors at FEGS Health and Human Service System and providing outpatient substance abuse treatment at the Manhattan 23rd Street VA.  Today, Sarah is honored to continue her work with veterans as an employee at the Department of Veteran Affairs. 
 

Starting in September, Josh Irwin ’08 will be opening a Xaio Long Bao Shop specializing in traditional, authentic Shanghai soup dumplings in Washington, D.C.  If you are interested in interviewing for an entry-level cooking position in Josh’s upcoming kitchen, please contact him directly at joshtirwin@gmail.com.

Hannah Jupiter '07 is the designer behind Hannah Bananah Designs, a ready-to-wear collection composed of vintage images from magazines, books and personal photographs. Hannah's work has been featured in Dig InMagazine, BuzzFeed and New York Best Models.  Hannah is also a 2007 Churchill Class Rep. 

Benjamin Magro '08 graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2012.  He is currently working in Booking and Promotions forBig Management, an EDM based Management and Consulting Company.  Ben books artists around the world and  helps promote their new releases.

Instead of heading to college right out of high school, David Nunez '08 traveled the world.  He first went to Victoria in Seychelles and then went to La Rochelle, France.  David, along with his father and brother, sailed across the Atlantic ocean to get back to the States.  While in Seychelles, David mastered diving and became a nationally certified diver.  He is currently hoping to pursue a degree in Marine Biology.

Alyana Pomerantz '08 spent a year in Israel after high school in a program called Year Course.  In 2013, she graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in therapeutic recreation.  Alyana is now a certified therapeutic recreation specialist.  She works with kids who are medically fragile at Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center, a pediatric nursing/rehab facility in Yonkers, NY, and she is loving it.

Elizabeth Scholnick '07 has been working on various projects since graduating from The School Of Visual Arts in 2011.  Expressing how she feels creatively through art has always been of great importance to her.  She is now producing a documentary and writing a photo book, among other things

Gabriel Ventura '05 is currently working as a substitute teacher for the New York City Department of Education.  He plans on enrolling in an education program at Brooklyn College and pursuing a Masters in Art.  Gabriel is also a 2005 Churchill Class Rep. 

Churchill’s 2014 Alumni Homecoming evening was a great success!  For the first time, the night incorporated an Alumni Art Show featuring works by Kara Caroccio ’09, Anthony Fuller ’91, Hannah Jupiter ’07, Gabriel Ventura ’05 and Weade V. Williams ’01.  Graduates ranging from classes 1991-2013 joined each other on stage to take part in Churchill’s traditional Alumni Panel, through which they shared their advice and experiences, and answered questions from our current upper school students and families.  Churchill’s Varsity Team defeated their former classmates in our classic Alumni vs. Varsity Basketball Game at the end of the evening.  A great time was had by all!  Many thanks to Andy Hoffman’08,  Jake Horn ’10, Josh Irwin ’08, Amelia John-Schonfeld ’10, Lauren Valdez ’13 and Gabriel Ventura ’05 for playing!  We hope to see everyone again next year!
