Occupational Therapy

The occupational therapists at the Churchill School work with children in a variety of ways. The program is geared toward increasing students' functioning across a wide spectrum of activities. Children might work on:
• Maintaining a better sitting posture in the classroom
• Handling scissors more efficiently for classroom projects
• Writing letters, words, and sentences with better control and greater ease
• Managing fasteners on clothing, increasing balance and coordination to enhance participating in physical education activities
• Achieving an optimal level of arousal for academic subjects
• Occupational therapy may take place in the clasroom, the OT fine motor room, and /or the sensory gym
• Students may receive services in dyads, push-in groups, morning sensory groups, handwriting groups and movement groups
