Elementary School Overview

The ES program is dynamic and supportive and one where struggling learners quickly feel good about themselves as students. Skill acquisition and academic remediation are priorities in each student’s program. Our highly trained teachers use specialized methods and materials to ensure progress. Science, art, drama, music, physical education, health education, library and computer classes all follow a set curriculum with specialized teaching for our students. Related Services are also provided to each student as necessary. The psychologists, social workers, speech and language therapists, and occupational therapists work collaboratively with the classroom teachers using a push in and/or pull out model for children that need them. The ES teachers, specialists, and related service providers work closely together to provide each child with an individualized program that ensures academic success and social and emotional growth. Students thrive in this nurturing environment.
Field trips and full ES activities are an integral part of the curriculum. There are a variety of day and overnight trips, which are directly related to the content being studied. In addition, students visit museums, attend concerts and plays, and take part in special ES events. Students in Upper Elementary participate in overnight trips to Nature’s Classroom. These overnight trips are the highlight of the year for the students and teachers.
Students in the ES look forward to our monthly traditions, healthy lunch days and special activities.

Churchill parents are encouraged to be active participants in their children’s education and life at Churchill. Parents are partners with us and are invited to many special events with their children in addition to “parents only” events. These include “Breakfast with the Principal”, Parent Conference Days, and Visiting Day to Reading and Math Groups. There are many opportunities for parents to meet with their children’s teachers in order to discuss their children’s progress.
The dedicated and hard-working ES staff makes the second floor of The Churchill School an exciting place to be. The smiles on the children’s faces and the energy and excitement that is felt each day as they open the green door to the second floor recharges the teachers and allows for amazing teaching moments and everlasting memories.
