Speech and Language Services

All new students are screened for speech and language services. If indicated, individual treatment goals are determined based on a further, comprehensive speech/language evaluation. The evaluation assesses a variety of skills including grammar, syntax, vocabulary, word skills, listening comprehension, auditory memory, reasoning, and narrative discourse. Decisions for inclusion in therapy are made based on the outcome of testing, classroom observations, IEP mandates, and the extent  to which the child's speech/language function affects success with the learning of curriculum. Parents are notified in writing about specific details of service delivery for their children. In addition, a copy of the written evaluation can be provided upon request. If speech and language services need to be increased, decreased, or terminated, the child will be re-evaluated. All results and subsequent recommendations will be communicated with the classroom teachers and parents.
